i knew gundam by reputation, but the very frank depiction of war still threw me off a little.half of humnanity is now dead, and the survivors are locked in a bloody stalemate, horrified at what they've done, and what they may do in the future Narrator: the principality of zeon is killing millions, using weapons of mass destruction like none seen before. Sick synth-disco playing over the credits show opens with a quick flash of some kind of wmd killing millions, if not billions of people. I know there's another WIW thread going on right now, but I figured it would be easier to have our thoughts in separate threads to avoid confusion, especially since I'm not caught up to that thread. They start off pretty brief, but around episode 8 I start going into more detail. I started this about 2 weeks ago, and I'm currently on episode 22, so I'll be posting my thoughts on episodes in batches for a few days. I knew of Char's existence but that was about it. I was aware going in that this was about the horrors of war and child soldiers and such, I knew that the kids show toy commercial aspects had been in conflict with that core theme from the beginning, I knew there was something called a newtype (which I'm pretty sure is Gundam for psychic) but I knew very little about the actual plot. Mobile Suit Gundam is obviously a very influential show, but until Witch from Mercury came out I had no experience with the franchise whatsoever. So, after watching the first few episodes of Witch From Mercury I decided I needed to watch more Gundam, starting from the beginning.
